Sometimes the DJ really does save your life. Everything needs a soundtrack, whether it’s a fashion idea, a technology innovation, or a fabulous film, and music is also the key to fitness inspiration. As I go through my fitness journey I am really grateful for the music that kept me going. Without those tunes bumping, there’s no way I could have stayed on an indoor bicycle for more than 20 minutes, dropped 20 pounds in my Zumba class, or push my limits with heavy weight training. Here are some of my favorite workout jams to be included in your fitness journey. You may have already heard of some of them, and if you haven’t you should throw them on your iPod.
1. We Are Young-Fun ft. Janae
If you want to feel like you’re in your very own workout montage, nothing beats this emotional and uplifting piece. The heavy, driving drums are perfect for keeping you rolling on that exercise bike, and the classic verses about being young and setting the world on fire can send us back into youthful reveries. Hey, sometimes you need to space out to get through the last 5 minutes of your cool down!

2. Happy-Pharell Williams
Man, I would kill to know what Pharell William’s fitness secrets are. The silky-voiced crooner hasn’t aged a day since the 90s and he just keeps churning out new hits. His 2014 hit is an instant mood-booster, with catchy hooks and a chorus you won’t mind getting stuck in your head. Put this one on while you’re warming up if you’re having a bad day and try to avoid smiling—if you can!

3. Moves like Jagger-Maroon 5
Honestly, who doesn’t want to feel like Mick Jagger when they’re in Zumba class? The funky 70s bass line will give you all the glamour you need to keep you shakin’ that thing, and the bouncy drum line will keep you rolling on that exercise bike, and the sultry vocals will keep you satisfied and help you unleash your inner rockstar.

4. Party Rock Anthem-LMFAO
When you’re ready to give up, drop this epic techno hit for a direct dose of energy. Manic, grinding synth beats will let you lose yourself in motion and keep your heart rate elevated, you’ll be spinning almost as fast as the beats per minute cycle on this high-octane dance. Put your hands up to the sound and work it out!

‘Bailando’ is Spanish for 'let’s dance,’ and the sultry latin beat will definitely get your feet tapping. This is one of my favorites from Zumba class, but the sultry latin beat can inspire you no matter what piece of exercise equipment you’re on. Even if it’s raining outside, Enrique Iglesias’ soulful crooning is sure to make you think of sunshine and palm trees—and keep you inspired to get the perfect bikini body for a Caribbean vacation.

You’ve got the beat, now put it to good use! Whatever tunes get you inspired, a loaded iPod is just as important as a full water bottle and a comfy pair of running shoes.
